Iconic Norman Cherner "Pretzel" Chairs
Iconic Norman Cherner “Pretzel” chairs by Plycraft. In great original condition. The bent plywood arms have some slight color variations with some patina that adds a perfect vintage aesthetic. I am willing to refinish and tone these for additional cost but these are an exceptional value as is when considering the average prices that these routinely sell for online. You can see examples of the craftsmanship of my restorations on my Instagram page ⚡️⚡️@blacksheepvintagedesigns⚡️⚡️ These are signed by Paul Goldman, the owner of Plycraft, which is comical to me due to the lore of these classic MCM gems. Originally designed by George Nelson of Herman Miller and manufactured by Plycraft, they proved to be too expensive and fragile to manufacture. Nelson recommended Norman Cherner to Plycraft to improve the design and make it a viable product. Goldman ultimately scrapped the project, but later sold the chairs under the designer name Bernardo. This name was later admitted to be fake when Norman Cherner found one of his chairs in a showroom in NYC and sued Plycraft in 1961 and was awarded all monies and royalties from his design. $795 each $1395 Pair MCM chairs Mid mod chairs Mid century modern chairs Eames chairs Plycraft chairs Knoll chairs
