Icelandic Mermaid Pottery Sculpture
Mermaid dish created by renowned Icelandic artist Gudmundur Einarsson (Guðmundur frá Miðdal) in his pottery Listvinahúsið (meaning Art House) and signed: three mountain tops as well as "Island" (for Iceland) dated 1939. This piece is in incredible condition. So far I’ve been unable to find any others with this exact glaze. According to Wikipedia (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Guðmundur_frá_Miðdal) Guðmundur studied art in Iceland 1911-13 and 1916, in Copenhagen 1919-20 and in Munich, Germany in 1920-25. His fields of study and performance include graphics, oil painting, sculptures and ceramics. He was a pioneer of etchings and ceramics in Iceland. His work has been exhibited at the Oslo Kunstforening in Norway and Galerie Paulus in Germany and in group exhibitions including at the Tate Gallery in England and the Kunsthalle Helsinki in Finland. The National Museum of Iceland has a collection of his photographs and the Icelandic Film Museum of his films. Pickup in Colorado Springs. Shipping also available. Home decor
